Ricostruita ex novo a venti chilometri dal vecchio paese, distrutto dal sisma del 1968, la nuova Gibellina oggi si può definire un grande museo di arte contemporanea all’aperto, un luogo magico dove in ogni strada, ogni piazza, ogni incrocio si trovano opere dei più grandi scultori ed architetti contemporanei: dalla grande Stella di Consagra alla Torre Civica-Carillon fino a tantissime altre sculture moderne di Burri, Pomodoro, Consagra e numerosissimi altri artisti, che ne hanno fatto dono al comune, per contribuire alla sua rinascita, dopo il sisma che lo distrusse nel 1968.Rebuilt from scratch twenty kilometres from the old town, destroyed by the 1968 earthquake, the new Gibellina can today be described as a great open-air museum of contemporary art, a magical place where in every street, every square, every crossroads you find works by the greatest contemporary sculptors and architects: from Consagra’s great Star to the Civic Tower-Carillon and on to a great many other modern sculptures by Burri, Pomodoro, Consagra and numerous other artists, who donated them to the town to contribute to its rebirth after the earthquake that destroyed it in 1968.
A Gibellina, si trovano un Museo di Arte Contemporanea e quello Etnoantropologico. Sulle rovine della vecchia Gibellina, pietrificate per l’eternità da colate di cemento che formano il Grande Cretto di Alberto Burri, si svolgono le Orestiadi, rappresentazioni del teatro greco di alto livello artistico.In Gibellina there are a Museum of Contemporary Art and an Ethno-anthropological Museum. On the ruins of old Gibellina, petrified for eternity by the concrete flows that form Alberto Burri’s Grande Cretto, the Orestiadi are staged — performances of Greek theatre of high artistic standing.
