Dalla città alla provinciaFrom the city to the province
The coast of Trapani, the city of two seas, offers — starting from within the city itself — an unbroken and varied series of beaches, inlets, coves and small bays.
In the old town there are some small beaches with clear, crystalline water; five minutes away, in contrada San Cusumano, are the other city beaches, with a stretch of sand and some equipped bathing establishments, with clear seabeds even further out.
Along the south coast you find further sandy beaches with shallow water, particularly suitable for small children: traditional holiday spots for many people from Trapani, Nubia, Salina Grande and Marausa also offer a range of restaurants, pizzerias, pubs and clubs.
Continuing along the southern coast there is an unbroken series of beaches as far as Marsala, from where they continue throughout the province and, just a few metres from the most impressive archaeological site in Europe, widen into the magnificent sandy expanse of Selinunte, with its intense, cool and luminous sea.
In the opposite direction, along the Tramontana coast, on the provincial road towards San Vito lo Capo, you come across inlets, coves, rocks and beaches of smooth pebbles or sand — from Pizzolungo, Bonagia, Lido di Valderice and Cornino as far as Macari and San Vito, where an astonishing stretch of sand looks onto a gulf whose waters are as clear as the most celebrated tropical seas, while a few hundred metres away there are rocks and deep water rich in fish: groupers, dentex, umbrine, amberjack, little tunny and many other delicious varieties can be caught — for enthusiasts — or bought from the fishermen on the boats as they come in.
The most popular kinds of fishing among non-professionals are trolling and night fishing for flying squid, similar to squid and just as tasty.
The splendid seabeds of San Vito, where colonies of red coral are still found, are also of great interest for scuba diving and underwater photography.
